Responsive Websites
You will require an interesting website to adapt appropriately to whatever modern device your customer prefers; a PC or a laptop, an iPad, a tablet or mobile phone. The solution is a ‘responsive’ website and my preference is to use WordPress that will provide this functionality automatically and is also very cost effective. WordPress based websites are very practical and also provide regular security upgrades.

WordPress is a very popular – used by millions of websites – open source, feature-rich content management system (CMS).

The Process
I think it is best that we start with a kick-off meeting where we can discuss your requirements. At this meeting I can show you some example WordPress styles (themes) so you can get some design views of how your website might look.
You will need a domain name and I can arrange this, competitive hosting and multiple email accounts for you. This should cost no more than £30 per year and my fee is likely to be £300 or less, depending on the number of pages, etc.

What’s Next?
I’ll go away and provide you with a draft website with my understanding of the pages you will require to populate. I’ll also help you create search engine friendly content including images. The draft will likely go through a number of versions until you are happy with the look and ease of navigation. (WordPress solutions are compliant and I will undertake testing on various platforms & browsers.)
Afterwards I’ll provide you with refinement support and thereafter either a maintenance/ annual renewal arrangement or, if preferred, some basic WordPress training so that you can look after your website yourself.

Background

Based in Edinburgh, Dave Simpson started XBOS in 2011 and has since launched a series of websites.

After 30+ years IT project experience in the NHS, Local Council, Bank of Scotland, HBOS & Lloyds he “obtained” early retirement and initially helped with Third Age Computer Fun, a charity that provided training for older people to extend their computer skills and confidently gain access to the internet and email.

“It was the genuine appreciation that I received from the people attending the Third Age classes that encouraged me onto a process of training courses and self-learning to become proficient in authoring web pages using HTML & WordPress”.

Most of my new business is gained through word-of-mouth referrals and search engine traffic. All development work is carried out by myself.
